Mohawk Group Launches Wild Dyer Collection, Inspired by the Hidden Beauty and Healing Power of Mushrooms

Calhoun, GA. November 04, 2023 — Mohawk Group, a leading global manufacturer of commercial flooring solutions, today launched Wild Dyer, a new modular carpet collection that celebrates the hidden beauty and healing power of mushrooms.

Mohawk Group drew inspiration for the Wild Dyer Collection from mushrooms and mycelium, using the company’s Emergent Thinking framework to explore the Grown, Built, and Meta worlds and their interconnectedness to reveal new paths forward for design and culture.

The Wild Dyer Collection features two coordinating 24" x 24" carpet tile styles that evoke the intricate patterns and colors of mushrooms. Curious Cluster, inspired by tightly grouped mushrooms, features organic striations in a boucle texture. Wandering Troop, named for mushrooms that grow with a bit more space between them, provides an all-over boucle pattern with pools of color.

Used individually or together, Curious Cluster and Wandering Troop create dynamic depths of movement with a beautifully constructed palette. Colorways start with four rich neutrals achieved by Mohawk Group’s dematerialized Heathered Hues yarn, which is combined with the innovative Color Pulse yarns to create four additional vibrant colorways that brighten the design spectrum.

“The Wild Dyer Collection is a celebration of the hidden beauty of mushrooms that nourish, heal, and inspire us,” said Jackie Dettmar, vice president of marketing, design, and product development at Mohawk Group. “Not only do mushrooms play an essential role in our ecosystem, their diverse shapes and colors are also a source of inspiration for our designers. Our team steeped various mushroom species to extract their pigments, inspiring them with the broad palette revealed. We discovered that nature is a wild dyer, quietly hidden.”

In addition to its stunning visuals, the Wild Dyer Collection is also highly sustainable. Mohawk Group’s Color Pulse fiber technology uses a zero-water dyeing process that saves up to one cup of water per tile. Wild Dyer carpet tiles are Living Product Challenge Petal Certified, for a net-positive impact in both carbon and water. The collection is also made with Mohawk Group’s EcoFlex™ ONE premium modular backing system, which is composed of 74 percent recycled content, which includes at least 10 percent post-consumer recycled content. Wild Dyer is 100 percent carbon neutral with an additional 5 percent offset.

In addition to its environmental performance, Wild Dyer also contributes to social sustainability through its co-benefits to ArtLifting and Specify for a Cure. ArtLifting is an organization that supports artists who are disabled or unhoused. Mohawk Group has commissioned artwork from ArtLifting artist Laria Saunders to explore the inspiration behind Wild Dyer. Her original artwork, titled 'Ciclo de Las Setas', interprets the key aspects of mushroom growth and how it has impacted her own health. The specification of Wild Dyer also contributes to Mohawk's commitment to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support breast cancer research and patients.
